"Capatillers"

We went to NY to see Chris' fam over the holiday weekend. His cousin is preggo with twins, so they held her babies shower :)

On Sunday, before we left, Caet was playing with a white Capatiller (that's what she calls them). Later on that day, she discovered a rash all over her tummy. This rash was really itchy. I gave her benadryl when we got home and it seemed to help just a little bit. Monday came and went and it seem to fade a lot. I sent her to school on Tuesday and the nurse called and told Chris we needed to go get Caety from school because she didn't know what the rash was and didn't know if it was contagious. I don't recall any rash that was contagious. If it were dangerous at all, it would be the primary illness that would be the problem. Not the secondary rash. Anyhooooo...I called the dr's office before I left the house and they said to bring her right in. I got there and they told me that there were a total of 7 rash cases that day alone. Dr said that it was an allergy and gave her some allergy meds, a note and sent her back to school.
Thursday night, Caet and Tanza were in the back yard playing and found another Caterpillar. This one was yellow and black, rather than white. Tanza took it home to bring in to her teacher on Friday. Wendy called Friday morning and asked if Caet had played with the evil worm. Caet said she didn't and Wen told me that Tanza was covered in itchy hives. Upon doing research , these caterpillars are toxic. There little hairs release from there body and they actually have a venom in them. They cause hives and other skin irritations.
Friends don't let friends play with capatillers :P

Last year in Shekou the rich gated foreigner neighborhood was invaded by very toxic caterpillars. One child that played was admitted to a Hong Kong hospital and was seriously ill. As a result the management had an exterminator come in and do a serious spray down of the housing estate. All of the caterpillars were killed, but when their dead bodies dried up, their toxic fuzz started to blow around and lots of people developed skin irritations from that.
